Not so gorgeous friend of Saddam

As Daniel Finkelstein says, George Galloway doesn't like it up him.

What always strikes one about Galloway is his similarity to that other proponent of free speech Chomsky. They debate in the most personal and vitriolic way but always cry foul. The best way to deal with these people is to remember [1] that they positively love to feel that they are bravely standing out against the wicked "other", the more the merrier, and [2] their debating style is contrived and calculated.

For example, pace your comment, I don't believe for a milli of a millimillisecond that Galloway lost his temper in the Finkelstein debate. That faux anger is simply one of the transparent and rather tired gimmicks of the Galloway debating style. It fools many people who see him as the people's champion - the people's champion who cheerfully shook hands with and complimented the Iraqi killer (ex professional assassin of course).

And these people have one characteristic in common: their constant stance of self-righteousnesses.

Don't be fooled.

The tactic of shouting down opponents with blustering anger was one frequently used by the vile Yassir Arafat.

Whenever a journalist had the temerity to ask him a probing question, he would employ just the same method of trying to shut them up.
