That isn't true of Jewish ethnicity; it's true of Jewish religious faith. You are using terminological ambiguity to construct a false dilemma.

Pinter is a prominent atheist. Presumably in your world he is also not Jewish and should not be on that list, because atheism is incompatible with Judaism.

I have seen no evidence to this effect, but it has no bearing on his actual ethnicity.

It is you who are engaging in lies in order to try and justify such nonsense. Religion is inextricably bound up with nationhood for the Jewish people. Even for those Jews like Pinter who do not believe in G-d this is so. And I know of no Jews outside of such tiny cults as "Jews for Jesus" (a group which is actively hated by the vast majority of Jews) who believe that a Jew can also be a Christian. In this we Jews are at one with Jewish law. The minute Pinter converts to Christianity he will no longer be a Jew.

I do know that there is a particular abhorrence of the Jew who converts to Christianity. Much of this has to do with the countless Jews who were murdered because they refused to convert to Christianity. Much also has to do with the millions of Jews who have been murdered for other reasons throughout history because of Christianity and Christians. Do you think we can forget the fact that the Holocaust could not have occurred without the overwhelming collaboration of Christian Europe and the various churches? At the very heart of this though is the fact that core Christian beliefs (the belief in Christ as Messiah, the existence of the Trinity etc. etc.) are utterly antithetical to a Jewish way of life.

The impudence of the gentiles knows no bounds. Now we Jews have no right to define ourselves as we think fit.

No doubt Indecent Left will now inform us that he can't possibly be anti-Semitic because he's ethnically Jewish. Ethnically Jewish because he occasionally eats a bagel and does a fine hora.

It says a lot when your argument follows weasel insinuations of anti-Semitism with the conclusion that a man with a Jewish father, and whose Jewish grandmother was killed by the Nazis, is "no more Jewish than Dr. Goebbels".

Allegedly at "the heart" of your arrogant belief that you speak for the world Jewry is the fact that "core Christian beliefs" such as belief in Jesus "are utterly antithetical to a Jewish way of life". That applies only inasfar as you define a Jewish way of life to be a religious Jewish way of life, and as far as leading such a religious Jewish life is synonymous with Jewish identity.

Numerous Jews are not religious, and do not accept your religious criterion for categorisation as Jewish -- unsurprisingly, considering they remain ethnically Jewish. Why do you presume to speak for them? You say you accept they are Jews, provided they aren't Christian converts (Oestreicher, Disraeli: out; Pinter, Hobsbawm, Chomsky: in), yet you deny these latter the right to define themselves as they think fit. That is, you are a hypocrite.
