I've just read Michael Gove's new book, Celsius 7/7. All I can really do is urge you to buy it. It's a truly marvellous book about the refusal of so many in the West to acknowlege the reality and scale of the Islamist threat to civilisation. It ought to be compulsory reading for anyone who has ever bought a copy of the Guardian out of choice, every BBC journalist, every MP who voted against 90 days detention and everyone who thought Adam Curtis' The Power of Nightmares was anything other than a piece of terrorist propaganda.
It's so well written that it's impossible to put down. Gove ranges across the history of Islamism, the reality of today's terror, the real role of Israel and the response of Western liberals. It's a book that needed to be written.
Buy it here. You won't regret it.

Could you give a short synopsis for those 2500 km from a bookshop?
If it's that good Call Me Dave will have him out in no time.
Michael Gove has an almost visionary understanding of the underlying realities of global politics. He's head and shoulders above his Parliamentary colleagues in that respect.
One can only hope that the publication of Gove's new book will bring his penetrating analysis to the attention of a wider audience.
But Michael Gove voted NO to the extension to 90 days of imprisonment without charge!
You are wrong if you equate failure to deal with the threat posed by Islamic terrorism with a lack of support for this particular measure. Blair's response has been both ineffective and unjustly illiberal.
Please explain why you lump in the 90 days issue with the others - it is quite different.
James - The Times itself published extensive excerpts, which I read, and I must say I found penetrating and brilliant. I think they ran around two or three chapters as excerpts, so you can find your synopsis there.
That is three intelligent, thoughtful and perceptive books about the threat to Western democracy from militant Islam: Michael Gove's brilliant book, Melanie Phillips's 'Londonistan' and Bruce Dawer's 'White Europe Slept'. As long as this cowardly, appeasing government is in office, things will only get worse and, to be candid, I don't think that Dave has the depth of perception or the strength of character, to take remedial action. David Davis would, as would William Hague.
Typo alert because it is so misleading: the name of Bruce Bawer's book is "While Europe Slept". Sorry.
That's some typo, given the relative positions of the 'l' and the 't' on a keyboard.

Don't get too excited, squid. I have posted on other blogs about Bruce Bawer's book in flawless typing. If you're a fast touch typist, you'll know that the position of the keys has nothing to do with typos.
BTW, how quaint that anyone still refers to Freud!
Gove believes in the mythical Muslim majority who supposedly abhor the violence of the Islamists.
This renders his book limited in value.

Yes - a brilliant book from someone who really has his finger on the pulse here. I am about 20 pages from the end and regret it every time I put it down. Unusualy for me I will probably re read it.
A small quibble. Gove is a Tory MP and I understand his rendancy to be hard on the left - a considerable part of the left deserves that harshness and more.
But we should not forget, and frankly I do think Gove underplays this, that the spirit of Neville Chamberlain lives on in the Tory party too. In particular "Londonistan" started during the Thatcher years and people like Heathm Rifkind and others were truly pusilanimous about say, Sadaaam Hussein,
The Right wind press - the Daily Mail in paritcular has played a very ugly game too over Iraq using it as a stick to beat the PM with knowing full well that they would certainly not have done this to a Tory PM.
