There used to be a code of arms-length independence between public officials and politicians. This has been completely suborned by the growth in 'representational' politics, which means that self-defined groups of minority interests have demanded power (regardless of their concern - usually not - for majority interests).

Politicians have sought advantage by caving into to these demands and principled public servants have been swept aside in favour of those who know which side their bread is buttered - and have no scruples about putting wider public interests aside for personal preferment. Sadly, women have been major players in this development, glorying in the status of the new jobs in the multiplying quangos which have been such a major part of the New Labour econmic programme.

Britain now bears a much closer resemblance to a pre-Magna Carta set of baronies than to a democracy. The various interests compete for the ear of the court and king and the interests of the common people are nowhere - except as tools.

Let's stop having a police service and get back to a police force.

A couple of thugs at the top squabbling over the United Kingdom as though it were a fiefdom in the gift of one to pass to the other if he chooses and the electorate had no say in who will govern them. That the police have given up all pretence of guarding the public against crime and taken instead to defending minority interests against the thought crimes of the majority is frightening, insane and destabilising - as it is intended to be.

There are many who come to similar conclusions, but nowhere have I read of any suggestion of how this disastrous tide can be turned before we dissenters are swept off to concentration camps for 'hate-thought'.

The lack of challenge to palpable nonsense is the part that drains away the will to live through such a nightmare. Are there no people of brains and principle (even police officers God help us) who are prepared to undergo martyrdom to protect eternal truths from the forces of darkness?

When the Tories do get back, they should sweep the board by rescinding every single new domestic law Blair and his minions brought into being and every single treaty they signed. Laws against hate speech, laws against criticising another religion, regulations blah blah blah. Blair's governing only with the consent, if memory serves, of 27% of the electorate. In other words, whether by not using their ballot or by voting for someone else, he was rejected by 63% of the electorate.
