At least from Belgium I can let you know a little victory. This week the Court of Arbitrage has nullified much of the censure laws ( the anti-discrimination law… - the Thought Police feels shattered), which was for the anti-American Belgian Establishment a basic tool in its fight against the Flemish conservative nationalists' democratic uprise (nationalists inside CD&V/N-VA and Vlaams Blok parties).

I don't think Mr Pollard will be too delighted about any measure that makes the Vlaams Blok's life easier.

Neither am I a Vlaams Blokkist. But it’s not my fault that in Belgium the nationalist working class is politically concentrated in the Vlaams Blok conservative party (meanwhile Belgium’s largest party) and that the more intellectual nationalists are concentrated in the small N-VA party. The latter is the one were everybody has a computer, email, visit cultural events…but they had to join the Flemish Christian Democrats to survive, because they did not reach the five percent electoral threshold…

But don’t forget: the complaint against the “anti-discrimination” act came both from Vlaams Blok AND N-VA. The latter was represented by prof. Mathias Storme of Leuven University, see at:

It’s not because of the approaching and thrilling showdown between Thought Police and Vlaams Blok (The Court of Cassation must deal with the Vlaams Blok’s appeal - sentence will be pronounced November 9, 2004), that we must concentrate all our attention on the Vlaams Blok party.

when two million Spaniards (me included, even if I'd rather prefer to be considered just as a Catalan and European) who were watching telly left their sofas to vote against Popular Party's government, I do believe Iraq's war had very little to do with that decision. It was the way president Aznar attempted to blame ETA (the basc terrorist organization). It was the fact that two milion people realised Aznar's Popular Party had been taking advantage on the conflict to reduce more and more the young and still weak Spanish democracy.
Without that two million people, Aznar would have won again.
Few foreign journalist understood that. Spaniards, who have a huge and long experience on terrorism, realised it is wrong to use just military force and limit public liberties to resolve terrorist problems. That is tricky.

So instead you voted in a terrorist-appeassing cretin? Wow what a clever idea. (I knew from the moment Aznar blamed ETA it was a bad idea btw.)

But with Spain I do see quite an analogy. People tend to vote for those they expect to give them freedom, in Spain for the left and in Flanders for the right.

Also to note: a comparison of the VLD-liberals’ party program (of prime minister Verhofstadt) with the Vlaams Blok’s program showed that both have approximately 95% in common, besides independence for Flanders.
