Steal of the season
» Posted on October 2, 2004 12:26 PM » Category: Racing

I've not tipped a horse for a good few months, but can't resist one of the bets of the season in the Cambridgeshire today (3.55 at Newmarket).

Gatwick, at 12/1 just cries out to be backed each way. With most bookies paying a qurater of the odds for the first five places this is a serious bet. 3/1 for a place is giving money away. I lumped on a while ago at 18/1, but even at 12/1 this is a great bet.

Everything has come right. The rain will give him his favoured cut. Gatwick needs to be held up, and often can't get the gaps in time (that's what happened last time when he would have won had he been able to get through) but at Newmarket that shouldn't be a problem.

Pile on.

UPDATE: ...or maybe not. He finished sixth. Typical.

Well, I *was* going to leg it down to the bookies, and put a tenner each way on it. But it started to rain, so I didn't bother. Result! :)

With your record for picks I will probably bet against if i want to win.

You ought to call yourself "Major Pollard, the Man in the Know" and boast about your string of stable lad informers at Lambourn and Newmarket. Then these sceptics would be silenced.

I once travelled back from Kempton with Ras Prince Monolulu, but that's another story...

Steal of the season took place at Goodison Park yesterday where Everton had 60% posession, 4 shots on target and hit the woodwork twice while Spurs had one attempt on target and won 1-0! Got to admit Ledley King was immense though.
