And during our teacher training we are being told to give at least 2 ideally 3 praises for every criticism and no more than 2 criticisms per essay/assignment!

And you wonder why the kids think they are geniuses and then feel so stupid and useless when they enter the big wide world or university and have to spend ages learning to write or speak English 'like wot it is spoke, know what I mean?' The first years here spend half their time doing courses on 'how to write essays' and they get away with the weirdest things in terms of spelling and use of argument in an assignment. I am many other mature students here have been getting 'A' grades for things we have written in an hour off the top of our heads and we are finding university so easy it is disgraceful.

And of course you all spotted that the 'I am' in the last sentence was meant to be 'I and'. Sorry! Dammed DOVAK layout keyboard!

That should be "damned", Dave. Best wishes. Bob (Pedant in Chief)

Purple? Feh!

That's nowhere near progressive enough. Those poor kids will still be traumatised. At my local school, teachers have to use the same colour ink as their students, so as not to stand out as different.

(I was going to write "same colour ink as their pupils", until I noticed the interesting coincidental ambiguity.)
