Everyone has misunderstood John Prescott's comment yesterday that "when plates appear to be moving, everyone positions themselves for it".

The word 'tectonic' has been inserted, assuming he was talking about great shifts in the political terrain.

I think not. He was, surely, talking about eating at a Greek restaurant, and how he had had to duck to avoid the low flying china.

Am I the only one perturbed at thought that John Prescott is (or purports to be without contradiction) the man who has it in his power to determine who shall rule over us?

What a feast day historians will have when they come to write of the self-destruction a great country content to leave its future in the hands of pretentious and cretinous poppycocks who either utter incoherent rubbish or grovellingly defer to it.

I think Prescott is referring to his technique for getting the most out of a buffet.

I did like the way he insisted his alleged secret meeting at an oyster bar was just a stop-off to buy kippers.\

Could this be a red herring?

Prescott also put around the tale that Peter Mandelson had mistaken mushy peas for avocado dip at a Hartlepool chippy. Reverse food snobbery is rife among the brothers in the era of Granita. But once oysters were the food of the poor.

It could also be a reference to his days as a steward in the merchant marine. Presumably he and his fellow stewards would have had to take special measures to deal with plates of food moving around during storms.
