I was unaware that Norwich is a war zone. There is, however, a body called the Norwich Peace Council. I assume from its name that its purpose is to bring peace to Norwich, in which task all will surely wish it well.
Interestingly, the Green Party's representative on the aforementioned body - again, I can only assume that, since it feels the need to be represented, the Green Party is one of the combatants, which came as a surprise to me given its oft-proclaimed opposition to war - has demanded an inquiry into allegations of a massacre in Fallujah.
Today is full of surprises. Who would have thought that a Green Party representative would be amongst the first to dismiss such allegations? That, clearly, is the intention of Mr Rupert Read, the Green Party's representative:
We are calling for a public inquiry into the events at Fallujah, similar to the inquiry into the Jenin massacre in Israel 2 years ago.
Since the allegations of a massacre at Jenin were found to be baseless, it seems Mr Read is already pressing for similar claims about Fallujah to be dismissed. Good on you, Mr Read! Well done for standing up to your more blinkered Green Party colleagues!

Your semantic football obscures a pretty grim reality. How convenient -
"Human Rights Watch has confirmed that at least fifty-two Palestinians were killed as a result of IDF operations in Jenin.
At least twenty-two of those confirmed dead were civilians, including children, physically disabled, and elderly people.
Throughout the incursion, IDF soldiers used Palestinian civilians to protect them from danger, deploying them as "human shields" ...
Among the civilian deaths were those of Kamal Zgheir, a fifty-seven-year-old wheelchair-bound man who was shot and run over by a tank on a major road outside the camp on April 10, even though he had a white flag attached to his wheelchair;
Jamal Fayid, a thirty-seven-year old paralyzed man who was crushed in the rubble of his home on April 7 despite his family's pleas to be allowed to remove him;
Some of the cases documented by Human Rights Watch amounted to summary executions, a clear war crime, such as the shooting of Jamal al-Sabbagh on April 6.
During "Operation Defensive Shield," the IDF blocked the passage of emergency medical vehicles and personnel to Jenin refugee camp for eleven days, from April 4 to April 15."

Bobby, given the anti-Israel bias in so much media reporting, I would treat such figures with scepticism, though of course to be fair they should not be dismissed out of hand.
As an Ipswich Town FC supporter, may I trust that there is never any peace in Norwich, home of the awful budgies.
Did you see Rupert Read's letter to the times today? He didn't disclose his connections with the Greens or the Norwich Peace Council.
In the light of his views on Jenin and Fallujah, it's hardly surprising that he gets hot under the collar about the possibility of Israel killing Arafat. Could killing Arafat EVER be called terrorism?
