Paul Richard's is rightly annoyed by wayward apostrophe's.

The Grocer's Apostrophe is one of my personal bugbears. It's just so wilfully ignorant. It's not hard to understand the function of the apostrophe and its persistent misapplication really grates. I think the most shocking is the way it has been creeping into the middle of perfectly innocent possessives: "Who's is this? Its her's." Almost as annoying is the your/you're confusion.

"Paul Richard's is righly annoyed by wayward apostophe's."

Is he as annoyed by missing 't's?

"apostophe's."

Or missing 'r's?

This bane is also finding its way into mainstream publications like newspapers where one would assume there are still copy editors. Yard signs and merchant notices are bad enough, but the pros should know better.

But Paul's wife wants to ban "Fish 'n' Chips", to which I say no! Not only does it have a long and proud tradition, it's apostrophically correct.

My local general store owner in my childhood was a sweet old lady who put signs up in her shop window advertising things like T Shit's. Smashing.
