She does indeed perfectly embody the smarmy self-righteous preachiness that so infuriates many BBC watchers. But I suppose it is marginally better than partnering her with some unctuous creepy male as increasingly happens on other news programmes.

Fiona Bruce is one of the few presenters who has restored my faith in the BBC. If only she could do five live in the morning now that I have finally done it and made the switch from Today....

She has weird eyebrows. Otherwise I don't really mind her.

One strange but true fact not mentioned in the BBC online bio is that for a short period Fiona was a Greenham Common peace protester.

I found that out while researching a whatever-happened-to piece about the people that made up the far-left in the early eighties.

I put an interview request into the Beeb press office along the lines of did she have the same views

Strangely, she never got back to me

My personal view is that of their first rank of general presenter type people, Gavin Esler is probably the best and most balanced.

Andrew Marr, in spite of the mud that was thrown over him being a known Labour supporter, has done an excellent job in my opinion. Brian Hanrahan is also very professional.

I also like Andrew Neil.

For me, probably the worst of their team is Tim Sebastian who does HardTalk on News 24 - if you watch carefully, everyone on HardTalk is attacked from the Left. Conservatives are attacked for being too right wing, Labour types are attacked for not being left wing enough.

Oh and then there's Orla Guerin... :p

I'd always just seen Fiona Bruce as incredibly dim, she really enlivened the coverage of the last election for me when she tried to accuse BBC studio guest Tony Robinson of being just another luvvy jumping on the political bandwagon, asking what on earth was he doing showing his face on election night etc..."errr well I'm on the NEC.." - cue hilarious rabbit--caught-in-headlights expression from Fiona of utter shock that Mr Robinson should have such a cunning plan to foil her accusations....

Fiona Bruce appeared in a documentary called "How Greenham Common Changed My Life" last night (March 3rd) on BBC2 (after Newsnight). She was interviewed about her participation in anti-nuclear protests at Greenham Common (while a student at Oxford) and she was very open about it. She even joked that it's to her eternal shame that she wasn't prepared to get arrested! So nobody can accuse the BBC of trying to hide Fiona's radical past from the public!

But then again, these days even the Americans are supposed to be against weapons of mass destruction. Don't forget the point of Cruise Missiles was to fly low, allowing the USA to attack the USSR from underneath their radar. So it was a dangerous shift of policy away from deterrence ("Mutually Assured Destruction") to preparing for a "First Strike" against Soviet missile silos. So I don't know what Barry Wood is getting at with his "same views" remark.

I also saw Fiona Bruce talking about her appreciation of The Human League on BBC2's "I love 1982" (or something like that). So she is very much a woman of the 1980s. You can sometimes see this in her taste in clothes (shoulder pads, etc.).

She looks like a cat.

There is indeed a strong similarity between Darren Jordan and Fiona; they both owe their jobs entirely to the positive discrimination policies of the left-liberal BBC.

Probably mad and sad for even bothering to write here as I'm sure I and you can find something better to do than thoughtless character assassination of someone that is as you say probably a lovely person. I'd say that her ubiquity is probabaly more to do with the fact that she is dependable a quality the BBC (who you are happy to use as a referee on your home page I might add) need and are known for. I also wonder what use this site is, yes I know it's a free society and little men want to display their silly charicatures and almost non-existent views but what a waste of time and energy! God Knows Freddie! Had been up all night (and probably was talking rubbish), but did mean some of what I said though. Bruce is brilliant as you say, Tim Sebastion seems to be a bit of a s**t stirring c**k (please excuse french) and Stephen Pollards caricature is indicative of someone who wants to be seen to be "hip or cool", which in my mind isn't too hip nor is it cool! (sorry Stephen)!

Fiona Bruce is one of my favourite presenters on television. She is anything but a person with straight BBC views. Did you know, for example, that she used to be one of the Greenham Common women in her earlier days?

I like her through and through.

Fioan Bruce is the best newsreader ever, I think she's great. Those of you who don't like her are just bitter and envious because she has a Degree from Oxford University and eh......... you don't!!!!

I think Fiona Bruce is the best presenter on the BBC, in fact, the best presenter on television. And I quite like her eyebrows. I think she is a vixen.

The most important point that I think some are missing is that Fiona Bruce is the woman with the best legs on TV news! Anyone fortunate enough to catch her dance routine on the 2005 Children in Need show will surely agree. She can do no wrong in my book after a display like that!

My reliable source is biology. No-one can look that good at that age. Plus, when she was grilling someone on Real Story, she looked craggy. Still superb, but craggy.
